How Parents Can Use Human Design to Support Their Children

As parents, we want to equip our children with everything they need to thrive in this life. This is where Human Design comes in, offering a framework to understand our children at a deeper level.

There’s a lot of information in a Human Design chart and a variety of ways in which this information can be helpful in understanding how to support our children at best. In this story, we’ll focus on your child’s energy type.

If you don’t know what your child’s energy type and profile are, you can find out by generating their HD chart online

Energy Type: How your child is meant to interact with the World

The Energy Type offers insights on someone’s unique way of navigating life and interacting with the World around them.

Human Design recognizes five types, each with its own specific traits: Generator, Manifesting Generator, Manifestor, Projector, Reflector.

Understanding your child’s energy type allows you to understand how they are designed to operate, help them get in alignment with their authentic self, and support their decision-making process.

For example, my older son is a Manifesting Generator.

Manifesting Generators are amazing creatures (from the perspective of a Projector). They are full of energy and love variety. They are natural multitaskers, in the sense that they have many interests and thrive in being engaged in multiple projects. They lose interest pretty fast and tend to move to their next thing quickly and easily.

How I’m supporting my Manifesting Generator child

By understanding how Mani-gens are designed to operate, I know that to support my kid’s healthy development I need to:

  • Allow him to cultivate his many interests and passions, and give him the freedom to pivot often.
Even when it feels like he’s being inconclusive, I need to leave my judgment aside and allow him to experience his multi-potentiality nature.
  • Offer gentle guidance without interrupting his flow.
It’s terrible for a mani-gen to have their momentum stopped or to feel like their freedom is being limited. My son is only 3 years old but I can already see how hard it is for him to accept not being in control of his choices.
  • Hold space without judgment.
Manifesting Generators move fast and proceed by trial and error. What they need is not to be told what to do, but someone to be there for them when they get hurt. On the positive side, they are very resilient: they’ll lick their wounds and be ready to start over amazingly fast.
  • Ask him yes or no questions to help him connect with his inner wisdom.
With a defined Sacral center, the best way to make aligned decisions for a manifesting generator is by being asked a yes or no question. Making the right choice will be much easier than it would be if they had to contemplate more options at the same time.

To me, parenting is a synonym for offering support and guidance, and my job as a parent is to help my child become able to function in this world while being in alignment with his true Self.

In this sense, Human Design offers invaluable insights on how to help our children become who they are meant to be, thrive as happy, resilient adults, and fulfill their life’s Purpose.
